I blew it. Fouled it up.
For some time I promoted the idea of “follow the peace”, particularly when making decisions about difficult or complicated situations. And while there isn’t anything wrong with that, it doesn’t always work.
What I should have been promoting instead of “follow the peace” is “follow the Prince of Peace”.
The problem with “follow the peace” is that peace becomes the target instead of one of the byproducts. The more I chased peace, the farther away it was. Until I found myself in a funk. It was like putting the horse before the cart.
The target isn’t peace. Or joy. Or love. The target is Jesus. With Jesus, we get the peace, the joy, the love. Targeting anything else is sure to end in disappointment.
“looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.” Heb 12:2
